Differential Diagnosis of Chronic Pancreatitis
There are several other medical conditions which may present with symptoms similar to chronic pancreatitis (CP) and must be ruled out before a final diagnosis of CP. These include:
- Acute pancreatitis
- Pancreatic cancer
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Gallstones (cholecystitis)
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Endometriosis - the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, often in the form of cysts
- Obstruction of the common bile duct
- Renal insufficiency
