Introduction to Chronic Pancreatitis
Hospitalization for Chronic Pancreatitis
A patient with chronic pancreatitis (CP) may require hospitalization under certain circumstances, including:
- Acute flare-ups
- Management of severe pain
- Weight loss due to poor digestion
- Treatment of complications such as pseudocyst
Hospitalizations for CP are increasing yearly, perhaps because of increased identification of CP, or because it is being diagnosed earlier based on improved imaging techniques and better informed physicians, or it may be related to the statistics of alcohol consumption of any given country or population.
