The Role of Alternative Medicine
Some alternative interventions are being studied for their benefit in managing various aspects of female infertility, an example being the use of acupuncture for ovulation induction. However, there is little to no reliable data to prove the safety or effectiveness of these treatments.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy has demonstrated some effectiveness in reducing stress and anxiety associated with infertility. Counseling has been helpful in coping with grief and depression that may occur throughout fertility therapy. In fact, counseling has been shown to be even more effective if started before fertility treatments are begun. Hypnosis has been used by some to promote muscle relaxation as well as enhanced psychological well being.
