Signs and symptoms of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) include:

  • Fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath are by far the most common symptoms and are due to a decreased number of red blood cells (anemia).
  • Frequent infections
  • Bruising, bleeding (such as nosebleeds) or the development of small red spots on the skin called petechiae
  • Bone or joint pain
  • Swelling of the liver, spleen or lymph nodes
  • Swelling, pain and bleeding of the gums
  • Abnormal menstrual periods
