Treatment Options for Multiple Myeloma
Asymptomatic Multiple Myeloma
About 20% of patients who are diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM) have no clinical symptoms of the disease, a condition referred to as asymptomatic multiple myeloma. In general, asymptomatic multiple myeloma patients are observed until the disease progresses to the symptomatic stage because studies have shown that there is no benefit in terms of survival if treatment is initiated during the asymptomatic phase of the disease. However, close monitoring of asymptomatic multiple myeloma patients is necessary to quickly detect any complications that may develop that would warrant initiation of treatment.
