Nutritional and Lifestyle Interventions for Diabetes
Care of Diabetes in Pregnancy
For the woman who has known type 1 or type 2 diabetes, optimal pregnancy outcome is most likely when there has been optimal control of the disease before conception and early entry to prenatal care. Pre-existing diabetes has been associated with a five-fold increase in the incidence of major fetal anomalies (especially heart and central nervous system) compared with women without diabetes. Prenatal care for a woman with diabetes centers around optimizing glycemic control, proper diet and exercise.
