Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes
- Family history of diabetes
- Obesity
- Race (African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian American, Pacific Islander)
- Age > 45 years
- Previously identified impaired fasting glucose (IFG) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)
- Hypertension
- HDL cholesterol levels < 35 mg per dl and/or triglyceride level > 250 mg per dl
- History of gestational diabetes or delivery of babies over 9 pounds
