Treatment Options for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Menopause and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in the menopausal years has not been widely studied. Manifestations of PCOS change with age. Some symptoms persist even though there is evidence that androgen levels decrease. Hirsutism and acne tend to stay the same in some women but alopecia appears to intensify.

Due to the increased risk for several medical conditions as discussed above, it is important for menopausal women to be screened at appropriate intervals for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, endometrial hyperplasia/cancer, and breast cancer.
