Introduction to Polycystic Kidney Disease

Incidence of Polycystic Kidney Disease

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) affects approximately 600,000 persons in the United States. Approximately 4-6 million people worldwide are believed to suffer from PKD. It is also thought to account for 7-10% of people who are on dialysis (mechanical filtration of blood). Polycystic kidney disease is considered to be the fourth leading cause of kidney failure and appears to affect all races and genders equally.
