Introduction to Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

Recurrence of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

It has been estimated that the recurrence rate of reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) in the same or another limb is 4-10% and that it recurs between 3 and 20 years after the initial event. Most cases of recurrence develop after a subsequent trauma or surgery. This has led some researchers to conclude that susceptibility to RSD recurrence may be increased after initial development of the condition.
