Diagnosis of Cluster Headaches
The diagnosis of cluster headaches is considered to be strictly by clinical presentation of the patient. The description of autonomic responses associated with the headaches is also helpful in establishing the diagnosis (e.g., if autonomic symptoms continue longer than the headache, the diagnosis may not be cluster headache).
The International Headache Society has highlighted the parameters of severity, duration and frequency of headaches, as well as the presence of autonomic symptoms on the same side as the headache (ipsilateral) to be the foundations for diagnosis of cluster headache.
