Caregiver Considerations
- Make sure that family members can "fill-in" for you if needed for an unexpected reason
- Try to choose outside activities that you will both enjoy, e.g., movies, going to a community center, book club, playing cards with friends, or inviting friends over
- Join a community support group of stroke survivors and caregivers so that both of you can benefit from hearing others discuss how they solved their problems and you can also form new friendships.
- If you are feeling frustrated or upset at the survivor or feel there are problems that need to be addressed, communicate those needs to either the patient (if appropriate), family members or the social worker so that solutions are worked out quickly and early.
- Feel good about what you are doing and take note of your progress and the progress of the survivor.
