Introduction to Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer develops in the lining of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that enters the vagina. Normal cervical cells may undergo gradual changes to become precancerous and then cancerous - a process which may take several years. Cancer of the cervix (cervical cancer) is the 10th leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States, but is the 2nd most frequent cancer among women worldwide (behind breast cancer).
