Treatment Options for Glioblastoma Multiforme

Management of Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme

Even with the best treatments currently available, the risk for recurrence of glioblastoma multiforme remains high. Unfortunately, almost all patients who are treated for a primary glioblastoma multiforme develop recurrence of the tumor and the median survival time following tumor recurrence is 3 to 6 months. The tumor will usually recur at or near the site of the primary tumor. The treatment options for patients who develop a recurrence of the tumor are the same as those for treatment of the primary tumor and include:

  • surgery
  • radiation therapy
  • chemotherapy
