Diagnosis of Small Cell Lung Cancer
Signs and Symptoms of Small Cell Lung Cancer
Initial signs and symptoms vary among patients diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (SCLC). However, most patients will present to a physician with one or more of the following symptoms:
- Persistent or worsening cough
- Persistent chest pain, often made worse by deep breathing
- Coughing up bloody or rust colored sputum
- Shortness of breath, wheezing, hoarseness
- Recurrent pneumonia or bronchitis
- Swelling of the neck or face
- Loss of appetite or weight loss
- Paraneoplastic syndromes - these are clinical manifestations or remote effects produced by a tumor at a distant site from the tumor.
- Weakness and loss of energy
- Fever
