Signs and Symptoms of Thyroid Cancer
Most patients with thyroid cancer present to a doctor with a painless thyroid nodule - an enlargement of the thyroid gland that is also called a goiter. Usually, patients with thyroid cancer have only a single (solitary) thyroid nodule although, occasionally, many thyroid nodules may be present - a condition known as multinodular goiter. In addition to a thyroid nodule, other signs and symptoms that may be associated with thyroid cancer include:
- Enlarged cervical (neck) lymph nodes
- Hoarse voice
- Dysphagia - difficulty in swallowing
- Persistent cough
- Dyspnea - shortness of breath
