Diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer

Staging of Thyroid Cancer

    • Stage IVB - Includes any tumor that has spread to the cervical spine or to nearby blood vessels but has not spread to distant sites.

    • Stage IVC - Includes any tumor that has spread to distant sites such as the lungs, brain, or bones.

Patients with anaplastic thyroid carcinoma are automatically classified as Stage IV (A, B, or C) because the likelihood for survival beyond 1-year for this type of thyroid cancer is only about 20%.
