Diagnosis of ADHD

Differential Diagnosis

ADHD can present in many different ways and can be easily confused with other medical conditions which manifest themselves with similar symptoms. It is crucial for the clinician to rule out other medical or psychiatric conditions which could be mistaken for ADHD or vise versa, including:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Lead poisoning
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Seizures
  • Substance abuse
  • Highly active child with normal development
