Treatment of ADHD
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy gives the patient the opportunity to talk about upsetting thoughts and feelings with a professional who can then help them learn ways to control their emotions. Psychotherapy may be effective for adolescents or adults with ADHD in helping them understand and then modify issues such as:
- Difficulties they may have with interpersonal relations, at home, school, college, work, or elsewhere
- Impaired self-esteem
- Coexisting depression, anxiety, or mood disorders
- Learn how to accept themselves despite their disorder
Psychotherapy does not address the symptoms of ADHD nor does it attempt to help the person change his ADHD-related behavior.
