Treatment Options for Fibromyalgia
Nutritional and Lifestyle Interventions
There is no special diet for persons with fibromyalgia, however, certain nutrients such as magnesium/malic acid combinations, vitamins (particularly B12) and fish oil are thought to be helpful.
Exercise is an important aspect of maintaining strength and controlling symptoms. Low impact exercises, such as swimming and walking, are generally recommended.
Persons with fibromyalgia may experience difficulty working due to pain, failure of their employer to understand fibromyalgia, cognitive impairment, fatigue, stress, decreased stamina or endurance, and cold or damp work environments that amplify their discomfort. However, the overwhelming majority of people with fibromyalgia are able to work if they wish to do so. In fact, most people with the syndrome work full time. However, up to 30% of individuals may have to change jobs due to the disorder and others may have to modify their job in some way.
