General Precautions for Patients with Scleroderma
- See your doctor right away if you develop signs of skin infection to prevent potentially serious complications.
- If you experience dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), make sure you chew your food carefully and slowly before attempting to swallow it.
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals to help control acid reflux
- Use artificial tears or eye drops to help better control dry eyes.
- Drink plenty of fluids and suck on sugar-free candy to help better control dry mouth.
- Exercise regularly to help promote good circulation to areas that are affected by scleroderma.
- Avoid doing heavy work (e.g., lifting) or other physically demanding activities that puts stress on your muscles and joints.
