Treatment Options for Sjogren's Syndrome

Management of Dry Skin in Sjogren's Syndrome

Some patients with Sjogren's syndrome suffer from chronically dry skin and may benefit from the following suggestions:

  • Apply moisturizing creams or lotions several times a day to keep your skin moist and soft.
  • Blot your skin dry after bathing or showering leaving a little moisture on your skin and then apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to help trap the moisture.
  • Use aqueous creams and emollients rather than soap when bathing or showering.
  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing.
  • Use a mild topical corticosteroid cream for mild itching of the skin.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. If your skin is sensitive to sunlight, use a sunscreen to protect your skin.
