Goals of Treatment of Spondylolisthesis
The primary goals of treatment for individuals with spondylolisthesis consist of:
- Relieving pain
- Restoring spinal flexibility
- Stopping the progression of slippage
There are basically two categories of treatment for spondylolisthesis:
- Conservative treatment
- Surgical treatment
Most patients with low grade slips and some with higher grade slips respond to conservative treatment. If the patient's symptoms continue to be severe and there is no response to conservative therapy, then surgery is considered as the next treatment option.
