Treatment Options for Spondylolisthesis

Treatment of Grades III/IV Spondylolisthesis

Since the slip of the vertebra is more significant in patients with Grades III/IV spondylolisthesis, more intensive intervention may be necessary for those whose symptoms persist and do not respond to conservative, nonsurgical treatment. Treatments may include:

  • Rest
  • Custom orthosis or casting
  • Surgical intervention in recalcitrant cases or with documented progression of slippage. It is estimated that up to 75% of people with Grade III spondylolisthesis will require surgery and up to 100% of people with Grade IV will undergo surgery for symptoms.
