Treatment Options for Vertigo
Goals of Treatment of Vertigo
The goals of treatment of vertigo are to educate patients regarding triggers for their symptoms and how to modify their daily habits in order to prevent vertigo, as well as relieving the symptoms when they occur and eliminating vertigo.
Treatment outcome is subjective and the only objective measure of success is a negative outcome with readministration of the Dix-Hallpike test. Approximately 85% of patients who experience benign paroxysmal positional vertigo have a negative result on Dix-Hallpike test three months after onset of symptoms without having any interventional treatment.
