Treatment Options for Vertigo

Treatment of Central and Psychogenic Vertigo

Central vertigo is treated differently than benign paroxysmal positional vertigo since it is secondary to other medical conditions. Treatment is focused on controlling the symptoms of vertigo while treating the underlying medical condition causing the vertigo.

Drugs to control vertigo may include:

  • Benzodiazepines
  • Antihistamines
  • Dopamine blockers
  • Antiemetics

Psychogenic vertigo due to anxiety or panic disorder may be treated with a benzodiazepine, such as diazepam or lorazepam.
